Supports Intensity Scale Information - Updated Dec. 20, 2007

In response to a federal mandate, our state regulatory agencies, Division for Developmental Disabilities (DDD) and Health Care Policy and Financing (HCPF) have selected an instrument that will be used in Colorado to determine tiered funding levels for individuals being served in Comprehensive Services. There will be seven tiers or levels of funding, each with an assigned funded amount that will be tied to the results of this instrument called the Supports Intensity Scale or SIS. These tiered rates will not take effect until July 1st 2008. The SIS is designed to assess the support needs of adult individuals with developmental disabilities.

In November of 2007, SIS assessments commenced for individuals being served on the Supported Living Services waiver.  A sample of 61 Pathways SLS individuals must have their SIS assessments completed by February 29, 2008.   All other individuals in the SLS Medicaid waiver program must have their SIS assessments finished by September 30, 2008. Tiered rates are projected to take effect for SLS individuals, July 1, 2009.
